Notre Dame and a visit from President Obama

That was that.

Well, today is Monday as far as I know St. Peter’s Square is right where I left in Rome and I’m still Catholic. The drama leading up to President Obama speech and honorific almost made the ceremony itself anti climatic.
Through out history you can find that the Catholic Church has often chosen to confront controversy head on, as opposed to whining from the sidelines. Notre Dame in extending an invitation to President Obama, and his accepting provided a national stage to teach a simple lesson. We all learned it in kindergarten and we all need a refresher course. “Treat others as you expect to be treated.” The Golden Rule can be found in all religions such Islam in the farewell address from Muhammad “Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.” And in Confucianism “Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.” The graduating Class of 2009 from Norte Dame lived that rule on May17th, and they will be better people for it.

By following the Golden Rule, these polar opposites realized they have more in common then they knew. Both value life. They still have a different definition of where it begins, however after all the smoked cleared they have a starting point. Life deserves respect and to be treated with dignity; we still have hurdles to over come, but its beginning. WE ARE ND!!!!!
