Erick Erickson vs Words

When I was a child, my parents would tell me to think before I speak, lest my words end up on the front page of the New York Times. As I grew older I would chuckle, because really what the heck would a newspaper from my old hometown want with my statements. Sooner than later I did figure out what my parents were trying to convey: words have meanings, if not used carefully they can wound, or create a serious misunderstanding. Use of our oratory skills can also inflate a situation and make it worse than it really seems.

Erick Erickson of the www.redstate.com was questioned by Howard Kurtz of Reliable Resources from CNN on his previous inflammatory statements regard Justice Souter amongst others. Mr. Erikson excused himself by saying he had to grow up some. And terminology he used with his friends was not acceptable in the mainstream. He also said he was concerned about how his family may be treated after a blog post. So, he’s more careful …. now. I suspect in the past he was more interested in getting media attention for his blogs, and in doing so had managed to get a contributor job to CNN for the new program JohnKing,USA.

My blogs may never rank up with www.redstate.com but I know if for some reason or other my words do end up on the front page of the NY TIMES. I have nothing to be embarrassed about.
