Arizona SB 1097

Arizona SB 1097 If passed will instruct public schools in Arizona to compile lists of children that are illegally here in the United States. If the superintendent determines that school is not following the law it can withhold state funding. The reasoning for this law to show the “adverse impact of the enrollment of students who cannot prove lawful residence in the United States.”

Let’s back trail first: Arizona passes the “reasonably suspicion law” then the legislature passes a law to ban all ethnic teachings i.e. Latinos studies, African American, Asian Studies. Now the above law as well. Perhaps I hit my head this morning, or the Margaritas I drank on Cinco De Mayo have come back with a vengeance. It’s not the year 2010 in the Common Era, but actually somewhere in the US History not so nice past.

When and if this law takes affect in Arizona it will have the desired result, parents and children who are here illegally will withdraw their kids from school. If some of the people of Arizona hope that these families will go back to their country of origin in order to educate their kids, they would be mistaken. Instead Arizona will have created an entire new generation of illiterates unable to contribute to society in any country.

We are the United States of America, we are an immigrant nation. Each wave the has come through is not always welcomed. We fear that next group will tip us over and we will cease to be what we are. But what exactly are we? Only time will tell.
