“I can almost see it, that dream I’m dreaming' but ...
There’s a voice inside my head saying
you’ll never reach it!
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high
There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb”
Yet another song meant to inspire some one to reach just one more time for the brass ring. Ironic that it comes from a 17 year old girl, whose father already had a foot in the door of show business; but it’s Miley Cyrus that has to do the work to be successful and make her career last longer then Hannah Montana.
At 39 I find myself in a similar position. CNN decided to take a chance on me. They opened the door for me to join their team as an associated producer. What I do is make sure that the news has the best and correct video to help provide texture or a visual so the viewer can understand the whole picture.
How I got here is not the typical path. No, I don’t have a college degree in journalism or media broadcasting. I didn’t spend any time working in affiliates (although they all use a different system you have to learn). I majored in World History; I was suppose to become a teacher. Instead I ended up working in various call centers for a credit card company in Delaware. And I made very good money and learned to make quick decisions to determine if there was a fraud or credit risk to the bank. Along the way I met my husband, bought a house had 4 kids and a couple of pets.
But then the door opened and a dream that I had never realized was presented. And like anyone in their right minds, you grab it. Sure, there’s going to be bumps and like the song says sometimes I’m going to lose. But what’s important is that I keep going.
Corny I know, but today I needed a boost.
