Month Two at CNN

I am closing in on two months at my new job at CNN, and by now the doldrums of fighting Atlanta traffic have set in. I typically spend my 50 minute commute or so listening to music at full blast (no kids in the car) NPR or the Regular Guys.

Yesterday on my way in I stopped by the kids’ bus stop to say good bye. One of the dads asked where I was going I replied to work. Just as he asked where one of the neighborhood kids piped up “She works at CNN.” He was so thrilled to say it, true happiness. And it wasn’t one of mine, just in case you were wondering. It was a neat moment, I drove away happy to be dealing with busses, kids on bikes, people trying to eat, talk, text and drive all at the same time.

When I came home that night my son Daniel handed me a permission slip to sign. He wants to be a reporter for TNN (Timber Ridge News Network). I sign my “John Hancock” with a flourish and wish him luck. I asked him why a reporter and not an anchor. His response: I want to get the news not just talk about it.

A boy after my own heart.
